ART IN THE CITY: FLORENCE
We celebrate art from around the world by asking our MUNTHE muses what art means to them and how it shapes the cities they call home. With Art in the City, we aim to inspire, connect, and celebrate the vibrant creativity and culture that make each place unique.
I n this month’s edition, our Italian muse Gili Biegun, takes us through her favourite art galleries and museums in her city, Florence.

Piazza della Signoria
It’s my favourite work of art in the city: the Piazza itself with all its components: architecture, hospitality, functionality and art. It’s an open-air museum that tourists, residents and workers can enjoy daily. I personally pass by at least 2-3 times a week and admire the architecture, sculptures and fountain.

Angel Rooftop Bar og Restaurant
Angel rooftop bar and restaurant featuring a permanent photography series by photographer Alice Eneale and creative director Roni Ilan. Besides being one of the best restaurants in the city, it’s accessible only by the hotel reception and it’s somewhat of a secret, more exclusive spot. The permanent photo exhibition is a favourite of mine and a great inspiration for me and with the best view of Florence it’s one of the spots I often recommend and enjoy. Even though it has a touristic location and characteristics, it is where the Florentine ''it'' crowd is coming for an aperitivo, brunch and dinner.

Milu Boutique Hotel
Milu boutique hotel and art gallery with a rooftop cafe featuring contemporary art and unique interior design items for sale. Curated by a woman curator, The Open Gallery at Milu Hotel is unique experience from the doors of the hotel, continues throughout the staircases and through the library, transforming the hotel into a living and evolving art collection. The rotating exhibition space features international artists working within various mediums such as sculpture, space installation, drawing, video and photography, and are available for purchase by hotel guests and visitors to the property.
Some of my favourite works are by women artists such as Galia Gur Zeev, Maya Gelfman and Marina Economides.
