ART IN THE CITY: MARRAKECH

We celebrate art from around the world by asking our MUNTHE muses what art means to them and how it shapes the cities they call home. With Art in the City, we aim to inspire, connect, and celebrate the vibrant creativity and culture that make each place unique.

I n this month’s edition, our Moroccan muse Sara Coelho Ansari, takes us through her favourite art galleries and museums in her city, Marrakech.

Musée De L'art Culinaire Marocain

The Morrocan Culinary Museum is a true gem, where you can forget the sound and heat of the outside world. The museum building is a 18th century palace, which belonged to a Marrakesh notable, covers 5000 m2 and has two interior courtyards or patios (one of which is more than 700 m2), paved with zellige (enameled terracotta mosaic tiles) that ornate decorative friezes and columns.

Jardin Majorelle

The Majorelle Garden is a beautiful botanical garden and artist’s landscape. It’s an oasis with its many cacti and sculptures. It features a Cubist villa designed by French architect Paul Sinoir in the 1930s.

Musée Yves Saint Laurent

Close to Jardin Majorelle you will find the Yves Saint Laurent museum. The museum spans over a 4000 m2 building with a beautiful architecture. The facade of the building appears as an intersection of cubes with a lace-like covering of bricks, creating patterns that recall the weft and warp of fabric. It’s the perfect place to visit for anyone interested in fashion.
