ART IN THE CITY: VIENNA

We celebrate art from around the world by asking our MUNTHE muses what art means to them and how it shapes the cities they call home. With Art in the City, we aim to inspire, connect, and celebrate the vibrant creativity and culture that make each place unique. In this month’s edition, our Austrian muse Carola Pojer, takes us through her favorite art galleries and museums in her city, Vienna.

„Vienna is full of Art and that’s why I love this city so so much! Old Masters, Contemporary Art, Photography, Sculptures, Glass Art & Ceramics - in Vienna you will find everything that makes your creative heart skip a beat.

My favorite art is by Egon Schiele - I love the way he used colour to express his emotions and his poems are incredible too.“

LEOPOLD MUSEUM

The Leopold Museum, with over 8,000 artworks, houses one of the world’s most important collections of Austrian art, focusing on the second half of the nineteenth century and subsequent Modernism. There you can see some of the most famous works by Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt, which keep inspiring me every time I visit the museum. Another thing to point out is the incredible architecture by Laurids and Manfred Ortner - the walls are made from Danube Shell Limestone which makes the museum such a bright and unique space.

STUDIO COMPLOJ

Nestled in the 18th district this Art Gallery is dedicated to the works of Robert Comploj, an Austrian artist and a pioneer in the field of glass art. In his studio he creates precious sculptures that captivate with their fluid forms, intentionally integrated imperfections, and elegant interplay with light. I adore the bright colors, the play with shapes and the incredible craftsmanship and I could literally spent hours there and observe the art.
