ART IN THE CITY: WARSAW

We celebrate art from around the world by asking our MUNTHE muses what art means to them and how it shapes the cities they call home. With Art in the City, we aim to inspire, connect, and celebrate the vibrant creativity and culture that make each place unique.

In this month’s edition, our Polish muse Agata Tanter, takes us through her favorite art galleries and museums in her city, Warsaw.

The atelier of Anna Halarewicz

Anna Halarewicz is one of the most highly regarded contemporary Polish artists. Her works balance between painting and drawing, focusing on a subtle observation of femininity. Her paintings, illustrations, and graphics – delicate yet full of character – have accompanied me for years, both professionally and privately. The artist’s atelier is, for me a special place, full of inspiration and extraordinary energy. It is the space where art takes on a personal dimension – where every gesture and every detail becomes a story.

Hotel Raffles Europejski Warsaw

Hotel Raffles Europejski Warsaw is a special place on the cultural and artistic map of the city, and at the same time a highly valued space for contemporary art. The hotel’s collection includes nearly 500 works by Polish artists – from avant-garde classics to the most important names of today.

Today, I would like to draw your attention to four works located in the hotel lobby: Włodzimierz Jan Zakrzewski’s light installation Borders (2017), Leon Tarasewicz’s Untitled (2017) – an abstract painting installation inspired by earth patterns, Monika Sosnowska’s Flag Stand (2017) – a steel sculpture that in a poetic form seems to flow down the wall, and Dorota Buczkowska’s hand-formed crystal glass sculpture Untitled (2017). For me, Hotel Raffles Europejski is the exceptional place where art becomes a holistic experience: present in the interiors, in the relationships, and in the atmosphere of the encounters.

Dolinka Szwajcarska Park

Dolinka Szwajcarska Park is my oasis of greenery in the heart of Warsaw – the space where nature meets art. Listed as a historic monument, the park is a testimony to the cultural and urban transformations of the capital. In the very centre of the city, and yet surprisingly full of peace - it is a perfect spot for walks and contemplation by the fountain. The harmonious landscape is complemented by sculptures by Roman Valerian Lukyanov – Boy with a Turtle and Boy with a Crocodile. They show that art in public space can be accessible to everyone.
